Best Student Talk Award to Dominik Jeschek

At the 10th ÖGMBT Annual Meeting (Ten Years Life, Science & Molecules) in Vienna, Dominik Jeschek, Department of Biotechnology, was awarded 2nd place in Best Student Talk Award for his presentation on “Phospholipid vesicles to determine the transport functionality of mitochondrial carrier proteins”.

Domink Jeschek is PhD student in the working group “Microbial Biotechnology” and his research is focused on understanding transport processes for improved metabolic engineering approaches of microbial cells. The prize winning talk is on phospholipid vehicles to determine transport functionality of mitochondrial carrier proteins.

The results of his research are either important for a deeper understanding of mitochondrial carrier proteins and it helps to develop metabolic models and metabolic engineering strategies which have great potential to push the frontiers of microbial organic acid production.

This work is part of the strategic programme of acib (Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology). Dominik is PhD student of the international PhD-program in protein biotechnology (BioToP) - funded by FWF and BOKU. Priv.Doz. Dr. Michael Sauer and Prof. Karola Vorauer-Uhl are his supervisors.

The Austrian Association of Molecular Life Sciences and Biotechnology (ÖGMBT) is Austria's largest association of scientists, students and currently 60 companies active in the molecular biosciences, biotechnology and related fields with over 1,300 members, the Austrian Society for Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology (ÖGMBT). The Best Students Talk Award was donated by Polymun Scientific and granted by an online public voting during the Award Ceremony.
